Recent ''crisis'' has boosted Florida property

The recent sub-prime crisis has actually boosted interest in Florida property investment among "savvy investors", according to one industry expert.

Adrian McDermott, managing director of Escapes2, explained that falling house prices in much of the US, combined with a strong pound-to-dollar exchange rate, have allowed UK buyers to "negotiate substantial discounts".

He continued: "From the feedback we''re getting, there''s a lot of people looking to buy, but they''re going to wait another couple of months to see what happens to the market.

"I think there will be a big surge in buyers over there."

Terry Prickett, managing director of the Florida Property Group, recently commented: "If you''re building up a portfolio or whatever, you''re in it for the long term, I would advise to stay in there."

The Florida Association of British Business estimates that there are 400,000 Britons living in Florida permanently or temporarily, plus 1.5 million British tourists each year.
